Ocean

Trigg Beach, Contacio (2005)

Immortal love, forever full,
Forever flowing free,
Forever shared, forever whole,
A never ebbing sea!

No offering of my own I have,
Nor works my faith to prove;
I can but give the gifts He gave,
And plead His love for love.

I see the wrong that round me lies,
I feel the guilt within;
I hear, with groan and travail-cries,
The world confess its sin.

Yet, in the maddening maze of things,
And tossed by storm and flood,
To one fixed trust my spirit clings;
I know that God is good!

I dimly guess from blessings known
Of greater out of sight,
And, with the chastened Psalmist, own
His judgments too are right.

I know not what the future hath
Of marvel or surprise,
Assured alone that life and death
His mercy underlies

And so beside the silent sea
I wait the muffled oar;
No harm from Him can come to me
On ocean or on shore.

I know not where His islands lift
Their fronded palms in air;
I only know I cannot drift
Beyond His love and care.
(J.G. Whittier, 1867)

Great poem lion, especially for us ocean lovers! Quick question... I was praying for my blogging friends this morning and when I got to you and your family I got a lump in my throat and felt the tears start to come. It's not something that happens often for me, I wouldn't consider myself gifted with intercession or anything but I felt I needed to pray strongly for you and your family. Just wanted to share that and ask if everything is okay? Hope that's not too intrusive and feel free to say nothing.

Thanks, Becky. Everythings fine. I have just been going through a dry-spell spiritually speaking.

But it just looks as though the first rains have appeared. :-)

The photo and poem work well together. There's nothing like a great beach shot to refresh the spirit. I can smell the sea air now!
